I have been performing guitar professionally for over 10 years, with a Master of Music degree in guitar performance. I usually take my $4,000+ concert guitar to gigs because it sounds great. But, the hassle of the mic, feedback, too much background noise, playing outdoors, etc. have caused so many problems over the years, I finally started searching for a “gig” guitar. I fist purchased an inexpensive Takamine classical-electric, but most traditional acoustic electric nylon strings sound lousy amplified, even through my nice Fishman acoustic amp. As much as I’d like to buy one of Taylor’s new acoustic electric nylon guitars, I can’t justify the price, even though they sound good plugged in, which is really unusual. So, I stumbled across Line 6 Variax 300 Acoustic Nylon, listened to the samples on the Line 6 website, and starting searching online for the best deal. I have recently received so many compliments on my sound since using this guitar. The volume can be louder, but I still sound clean and natural, and there is no background noise or feedback. My only problem is there is occasionally a loud crackle sound that is either from the included stereo cable, or the jack on the guitar. When it happens, it is a real annoyance. So, I’m looking for another one so I can use the one I have only as a back up.

This is a great acoustic for those who want to gig and don’t want to carry lot of gear with you to get the sound you want. I like how you can save settings to the memory and recall them later. The body of the guitar is super thin and compact and makes it easy to fit in your car with all your other road gig gear.
